Prolene® polypropylene sutures feature an inert material that only causes minimal tissue reaction and prevents bacterial growth. The thread is strong and considerably less thrombogenic than many other suture materials.
The thread is slightly elastic, very smooth, but easy to handle and knot. A special feature is the so-called "plastic deformity knot" so the knot locks itself.
Prolene® sutures include Ethalloy® suture needles that have a high degree of resistance to bending or breaking. The slender needle geometry allows for easy, atraumatic tissue penetration.
There is a wide range of needle/thread combinations available for specific cardiovascular and vascular surgery.
