Pessary
The treatment of pelvic floor disorders with pessaries has been widely practiced in many cultures for centuries. Pessaries can be inserted into the vagina as a conservative therapy for prolapse and stress incontinence. The Profem range of pessaries is made of hypoallergenic medical grade silicone.
The success of pessary therapy depends primarily on the selection of the correct type and size of pessary. Before a pessary is used, the medical condition can be examined by a specialist to rule out contraindications and possible risks. Ideally, the patient should be trained by the healthcare professional to insert and remove the pessary themselves. ProFem supports healthcare professionals with unique fitting sets available for most types of pessaries.
Cleaning
It is recommended that the pessary is removed and cleaned regularly, in consultation with your healthcare provider. Some types of pessaries can be used for a longer continuous period and a regular schedule of appointments should be agreed with your healthcare provider.

There are many different types of vaginal pessaries with a proven track record in treating descensus and incontinence problems. ProFem® pessaries offer a unique range of pessary types and sizes that allow for largely individual fitting and care. Some ProFem® pessaries are available as a version with an additional supporting membrane. These provide improved uterine support. The perforated versions allow for better drainage of secretions and easier removal of the pessary. The ProFem® cube pessary can be ordered with or without perforation if the healthcare provider requires stronger suction on the vaginal wall.
