Colex enema belongs to the group of medicines that promote bowel movements (laxatives). (laxatives).

What is this medicine used for
Colex enema is intended for emptying the colon and rectum
- for occasional constipation (blockage)
- to remove barium porridge (a diagnostic agent)
- in preparation for certain medical procedures and during childbirth.

Colex enema is intended for use by adults and children over 12 years of age. Colex enema may not be used in children up to and including the age of 12 without medical supervision.



NOT TO BE USED WITH

- You are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
- You have recently been sick.
- You feel thirsty and light-headed, and have concentrated, strong-smelling urine
(signs of dehydration).
- You have been told by your doctor that you may have one of the following conditions:
- a blockage in your bowel
- an inflammation of your bowel (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis).
- You have abdominal pain.
- You have appendicitis or peritonitis.
- You have black, sticky or bloody stools, or blood in vomit (signs of stomach or intestinal bleeding).
- You have kidney problems.
- You have abnormal blood test results (high phosphate levels, low or high calcium levels).
- You have a congenital enlargement of the large bowel (congenital megacolon).
- You have a missing normal opening of the anus (atresia ani).
- You suffer from insufficient heart function (heart failure).
Colex enema may also not be administered to children younger than 3 years old


DOSAGE

The recommended dosage is one container of 133 ml per treatment. Because approximately 15 ml will remain in the container, the actual dose administered is then approximately 118 ml, which contains 4.4 grams of sodium.
Use in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age
Colex enema is intended for use by adults and children over the age of 12. Colex enema may not be used in children up to and including the age of 12 without medical supervision. Colex enema may not be administered to children under the age of 3. Children require assistance in administering this medicine.
