The Aidian Uricult Trio (Orion reference number 68197) is a professional double-sided dip slide designed for the rapid and reliable detection of bacteria and yeasts in urine samples. This widely used urine culture test is suitable for GP practices, laboratories, healthcare facilities and occupational health services for the screening and detection of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
By combining three different culture media, the Uricult Trio enables effective differentiation of the microorganisms most commonly associated with urinary tract infections.
The dip slide contains two sides coated with different culture media:
After immersion in a urine sample, the dip slide is incubated, allowing bacterial and yeast growth to be visually assessed.
CLED medium is a non-selective culture medium that supports the growth of virtually all bacteria and yeasts capable of causing urinary tract infections. This provides a broad overview of potential pathogens present in the urine sample.
MacConkey medium contains bile salts that inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, including:
As a result, Gram-negative bacteria grow preferentially on this medium, helping to distinguish between Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
The Uricult Trio includes a dedicated E. coli medium. Detection is based on the β-glucuronidase activity of Escherichia coli. This causes E. coli colonies to develop a distinctive colour, making them easily visible to the naked eye, while other Gram-negative colonies remain colourless.
For optimal results, Uricult Trio dip slides should be incubated using the Cultura M Incubator.
