The Uricult Plus is a double-sided dipslide for the professional detection of urinary tract infections.
Uricult Plus contains an Enterococcus spp. specific medium on which enterococci grow as red colonies.
It is a method to detect bacteria and yeasts in urine.
This dipslide consists of two sides on which the media are applied. One side is covered with CLED medium, the other side with MacConkey and E.coli medium. The detection of E.coli is based on their Beta-glucuronidase activity. The result is that colored E.coli colonies can be seen and assessed with the naked eye, while other gram-negative colonies remain colorless.
The CLED medium is a non-selective medium on which all bacteria and yeasts that can cause a urinary tract infection grow.
The MacConkey medium contains bile salts that inhibit gram-positive bacteria (including S.aureus, S.saprophyticus and E.faecalis) so that they do not grow or grow poorly on this medium. Using these two media, a distinction can be made between gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
