ProFem Flexishelf Pessary FS16 - 89 mm
The FlexiShelf is used
to relieve the symptoms of
a cystocele and
second or third degree
uterine prolapse. The anatomical
shape of this pessary makes it easier to
remove and the concave shape
of the base supports
the prolapse. The tapered
rigid stem makes it easier to
grasp and rotate for
removal.
Indication: Second or third degree
prolapse and proccidentia.
Insertion
Hold the tapered stem and separate the labia minora posteriorly at the introitus with the non-dominant hand, hold the folded pessary firmly and insert the rim through the introitus. Rotate the pessary so that the rest of the pessary base slides into the vagina, followed by the stem. Push deeply into the vagina with the Flexi-Shelf pessary stem pointing forward.
Removal
With the non-dominant hand, separate the labia minora posteriorly at the introitus. Grasp the tapered stem to gently pull the Shelf pessary downward. Now move one edge of the pessary base toward the introitus. Move the rim through the introitus and rotate the base out of the vagina, followed by the stem.

Pessary
The treatment of pelvic floor disorders with pessaries has been widely used in many cultures for centuries. Pessaries can be placed in the vagina as a conservative therapy for prolapse and stress incontinence. The Profem range of pessaries is made of hypoallergenic medical grade silicone.
The success of pessary therapy depends primarily on the selection of the correct pessary type and size. Before using a pessary, the medical condition can be assessed by a specialist to rule out contraindications and possible risks. Ideally, the patient should be trained by the healthcare professional to insert and remove the pessary themselves. ProFem supports healthcare professionals with unique fitting kits available for most types of pessaries.
Cleaning
It is recommended that the pessary is removed and cleaned regularly, in consultation with your healthcare provider. Some types of pessaries can be used for a longer period of time without interruption and a regular schedule of appointments should be agreed with your healthcare provider.
Types of pessaries
There are many different types of vaginal pessaries with a proven track record in treating descensus and incontinence problems. ProFem® pessaries offer a unique range of pessary types and sizes that allow for largely individual fitting and care. Some ProFem® pessaries are available in versions with an additional supporting membrane. These provide improved uterine support. The perforated versions allow for better drainage of secretions and easier removal of the pessary. The ProFem® cube pessary can be ordered with or without perforation if the healthcare provider requires stronger suction on the vaginal wall.
