The tablets are not suitable for children under 8 years of age (see under 'Warnings and precautions with Imodium Instant melting tablet'). Children under 2 years of age should also not be treated with other forms of Imodium.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you think that the cause of the diarrhea could be poisoning, for example with a heavy metal (such as mercury, lead or cadmium).\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have a 'megacolon'. That is a very dilated colon; a serious situation that can occur in patients with Hirschsprung's disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, characterized by a very painful abdominal distension, fever and an accelerated heartbeat.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you actually have a blockage of the bowels, causing some watery stools to 'leak'. This occurs with certain intestinal disorders.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have persistent stomach pain, high fever and \/ or mucus and \/ or blood in your stool. These symptoms may be due to food poisoning or an infection or inflammation of the colon.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have bacterial inflammation of the large and \/ or small intestine caused by invasive organisms, including Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have severe inflammation of the gut (e.g. ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis due to the use of certain antibiotics).\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003ein all cases where normal bowel movements should not be suppressed. The administration must be stopped immediately in case of constipation or abdominal swelling.\u003cbr \/\u003e\u003cbr \/\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e \u003c\/ul\u003e \u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\u003ch2\u003eDOSAGE\u003c\/h2\u003e Adults\u003cbr \/\u003eIn case of acute (sudden) diarrhea\u003cbr \/\u003eStart with 2 tablets (4 mg). Then take 1 tablet (2 mg) after each subsequent loose stool, ÿ for as long as the diarrhea lasts. Never take more than 8 tablets (16 mg) in one day.\u003cbr \/\u003e\u003cbr \/\u003eWith chronic (long-term) diarrhea\u003cbr \/\u003eStart with 2 tablets (4 mg) per day. Then adjust this dose until you have solid stools 1 to 2 times a day. Usually this is achieved with 1 to 6 tablets (2 to 12 mg) per day. You should never take more than 8 tablets (16 mg) in one day.\u003cbr \/\u003e\u003cbr \/\u003eChildren from 8 years old\u003cbr \/\u003eIn case of acute (sudden) diarrhea\u003cbr \/\u003eStart with 1 tablet (2 mg).
