How to use a glucose meter and which one to choose
Called a blood glucose meter, it is a medical device used to measure the level of glucose in the blood. This is important in diabetes mellitus to control blood sugar levels and improve diabetes management. You can also use the meter to find out if you have diabetes. A fasting glucose value of <6.1 is normal, and <7.8 is not fasting. Values ≥ 7.0 fasting and ≥ 11.1 not fasting indicate diabetes.
How to use the glucose meter
1. Wash your hands thoroughly before starting to make sure no sugar or dirt remains on your fingers, which can affect the results.
2. Place a lancet in the lancing device and set the puncture depth based on your skin type and comfort level.
3. Choose a puncture site on the side of your fingertips and prick gently to obtain a small drop of blood.
4. Apply the blood drop to the test strip inserted into the glucose meter.
5. Wait a few seconds for the meter to measure the glucose level in your blood.
6. Record the results, along with the date and time, in your logbook or glucose monitoring app, if you use one.
7. Depending on your needs and the type of glucose meter you use, you may also need to follow other steps such as setting the date and time, calibrating the meter, etc.
Which glucose meter do you choose:
It's important to note that the "best" glucose meter for you will depend on your personal needs and preferences, as well as your healthcare provider's recommendations. We recommend that you also contact your GP or diabetes nurse to get their advice and recommendations on which glucose meter is most suitable for your situation.
Also look at the cost of the meter, for example. We usually sell the products of Ht One en Diatesse . The reason is that they are excellent glucose meters with a good price where the strips are also very competitively priced.
I hope this helps you find the best glucose meter for your needs! If you have any further questions or need further assistance, please let us know.
Please note that the specific steps may vary depending on the make and model of your glucose meter. It is always a good idea to refer to the manufacturer's instructions for detailed information on the proper use of your specific glucose meter. In addition, it is recommended that you talk to your healthcare provider about the proper use of a glucose meter and how best to manage your diabetes.
