Ethicon Spongostan standard 7x5x1cm 2 pieces
Spongostan is an absorbent and sterile neutral-reacting gelatin cushion for absorbing wound fluid or blood. Due to the homogeneous porous surface of the sponge, Spongostan has a haemostatic effect.
In contact with blood, the large surface area of the sponge causes a rapid breakdown of platelets. This releases thromboplastin, so that normal coagulation (blood clotting) occurs. The sponge is a-toxic and does not give any chance of allergic reactions. It adheres to the wound surface and absorbs about 40 times its own weight in blood. It can be used dry or soaked in physiological saline or antibiotics. It has a neutral pH and can be easily cut into any shape. When applied to the body, Spongostan is completely absorbed over approximately 3-5 weeks without any scar tissue forming.
