That is a very dilated colon; a serious situation that can occur in patients with Hirschsprung's disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, characterized by a very painful abdominal distension, fever and an accelerated heartbeat.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you actually have a blockage of the bowels, causing some watery stools to 'leak'. This occurs with certain intestinal disorders.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have persistent stomach pain, high fever and \/ or mucus and \/ or blood in your stool. These symptoms may be due to food poisoning or an infection or inflammation of the colon.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have bacterial inflammation of the large and \/ or small intestine caused by invasive organisms, including Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eif you have severe inflammation of the gut (e.g. ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis due to the use of certain antibiotics).\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003ein all cases where normal bowel movements should not be suppressed.
