If you have a wound on your body, you can cover it with an island plaster.
What is an island patch?
There are different types of wounds and also different plasters. You can also cover large wounds with plasters. But what exactly is an island patch? An island plaster is a large plaster that is long and wide, making it ideal for covering larger skin damage. For example, a wound as a result of a minor operation or an injury that causes an abrasion. You use the island plaster to cover larger surfaces. Make sure that the adhesive edge of a plaster is not too close to the wound. This way, the wound can heal properly and there will be no damage when you remove the island plaster.
Which island patch do you use?
Not every major wound is the same. You can choose various sizes depending on the size of the wound, for example with a wound pad measuring 3 by 4 centimeters. With the adhesive edge, this island patch has dimensions of 6 by 7 centimeters. With this size you can, for example, tape up a scrape on the knee. The wound pad of this plaster is 5 by 7 centimeters. If you have a larger wound, take a size of 8 by 10 centimeters with the adhesive edge included.
How often should I change a patch?
It is best to replace the patch daily. You also need to replace the plaster if the wound fluid leaks through.
